Cleaning a Natural Cheese Cloth

It seems like an easy thing to do, but living in a day and age where everything seems to get thrown into a machine or a cleaning solution in order to "sanitize" it, I thought I would go through the simple process of how to clean a cheese cloth so as to make it last and stay clean for repeated cheese making.

Here are the steps to follow:

First, rinse the cloth out in cold water, making sure to remove all the remnants of cheese (or whatever else you used the cloth to strain).  T.hen ring it out well

Next, put the cloth into a pot and the cloth with cool water.

Now, put the pot, with the cloth in it, on the stove top and heat the water and cloth to boiling.

Boil for 5 to 10 minutes, making sure to stir the cloth a few times so that it is boiled evenly. (I actually just grab the top piece of fabric with my fingers, swirl it around, and dump it back in...but that may be a bit too painful for some of you.)

Turn off the heat and allow the water and cloth to cool to a temperature you can handle touching.

Then, with clean hands remove the cloth, wring out again...

...and then hang to dry.
